An absolutely gorgeous book just for fun, for the unruly ones that don't want to get out of the tub!
This silly story of a lazy, water-loving king rollicks from one glorious, fun-filled page to the next. Various people try to get the king to emerge and tend to his duties but no one can budge him…except for one sensible servant. The story is admirably assisted by gorgeous illustrations filled with life, color and the mobile expressions of the personages who join the king in his titular bath. Each personage gets a tub that magically changes to suit the appropriate duties, reminding us of all the fun children have in bathtubs when they let their imaginations soar. The book is accompanied by a musical CD. The text is wedded to bouncing, cheerful music that echoes the book’s passages between its characters. It’s fun stuff—but you might want to sing and dance away from the water.
The preschool-aged kiddos I work with adore this book, and think it's hilarious! I love it as well. It doesn't have a ton of text, but its illustrations are incredibly rich and filled with tons of detail, so it can be read quickly, or expanded by asking kids questions like, "what animals do you see?" "how many fish do you see?" "what foods do you see?" "where's King Bidgood in this picture?" "what is he thinking/what is his facial expression telling us?"
A classic story kids of all ages will enjoy. Stunning illustrations and catchy, repetitive text carry this story of a King who simply refuses to leave his bathtub. Whether fishing, dining, or dancing, it all happens in the tub. Perfect for storytimes of all types, and a definite crowd pleaser.
Oh my goodness, these pictures are wonderful. The story is good, but the pictures just take it above and beyond. Very nice.
Ridiculous story about a King who won't get out the bathtub. Kids laughed every page. The illustrations are so funny in every detail - and the over-the-top costumes are amazing. As an adult I have to say I was slightly disturbed thinking about everyone getting into the bath with the nude King, but it was perfect humor for little kids who don't get disturbed about such things!
I love this book! The illustrations are fantastic! The boy hero is clever and outwits the court!
The Kings in the tub and he won't get out. See how the day passes at court with the king in the tub.
