Grey is one of our favorite children's book authors. This adventure story within a story is quieter than the Traction Man romps, but plays on the same themes of the magic surrounding children's toys and the lives we imagine for them. What happens when toys get left outside at night? What happens to toys that get lost? Any kiddo who loves their toys and/or science fiction themes needs to read this one.

fun and satisfying story! lots of information in the illustrations, a perfect story.

My kids like it a lot. The illustrations really catch the attention and imagination.

Unfortunately there is a robot with poor grammar and a cowboy who says "Dang it!" Neither is setting a good example for my kids; we've had issues with imitation.

As the toys experience their first night out, Wonderdoll relates a tale of abduction to pass the time.

Quite often the toys interject with their own thoughts (being the embodiment of the thoughts of a child reading this), so Wonderdoll changes the story to meet their requests. For this, the pages are split into panels, from which the group can observe events.

For toys who have been forgotten outside, the topic of a lost stuffed animal getting found again is appropriate. While there are more emotional books dealing with the topic (ex. Red Ted and the Lost Things), this one distances itself by speaking through a story, leaving it with a lighter tone and more obvious ending.

Toys who are left outside overnight go on an imaginary, out-of-this-world adventure in a unique picture book that's sure to win over Toy Story fans. As the abandoned toys stare up the starry sky, WonderDoll tells them a story in which - oh no! - the toys are abducted by an alien in a spaceship. But it turns out that the alien is just searching for his own beloved lost toy, Cuddles. Can WonderDoll and friends help him? With comic book-influenced illustrations, endearingly anxious commentary from the listening toys, and an ending that blends fantasy and reality, Toys in Space has all the quirky charm of a genuine, off-the-cuff bedtime story.
