This is a good book. The beginning seems like hallmarks when Calls the heart, which is also a book by Janette Oke.
The first of Janette Oke's 'reboot' series (Return to the Canadian West, which is related – but does not resemble too closely – the Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart) is a wonderful start to series. I loved that Oke wrote the series with her daughter, which is certainly reflected in the contemporized writing style. The pace is not as sedate as Oke's earlier novels, and her characters are a bit more complex and realistic. I really enjoyed getting to know Beth as she travels to Coal Valley for her first teaching assignment. While there, she learns a great deal about herself, helps to resolve several incidents, makes lifelong friends, and perhaps finds a romance that will change her life. Christian values are interwoven beautifully, and Beth's faith grows in subtle yet powerful ways throughout the story. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Janet Oke has done a great book with her daughter, so much so that Hallmark picked this to start a TV series (which is now in its 4th season)
Janette Oke's new series is splendid. Her character development is excellent. Beth and the other families dwelling in Coal Valley are sure to captivate readers. Also, Mountie Jack will add a special touch to the story. While her plot is of a medium pace, there are certain twist sure to leave the reader wondering. Furthermore, Janette's message is timely and encouraging. This is a great read.
I don't really have any criticism on this book. It is really good. Janette and her daughter do a great job. They wrote another book after called Where Trust Lies. Just as good;)
Hoping for another....
wow, what a creative person Beth is! She was a wonderful teacher in this novel with tons of energy for the little town. I hope there is a sequel to this story.
