"Fascinating and hilarious," "relentlessly clever," and "truly haunting" are all phrases that have been used to describe David Schickler's unique talent. And all apply to this brash, brilliant novel featuring two of the most memorable characters in contemporary fiction: Grace McGlone and Henry Dante.Sexy and willful, Grace McGlone is saving herself for the right man. When Henry Dante pulls into the small Wisconsin town where she works at the car wash, she instantly knows he's the one. He knows it too. I loved this book; part gangster story, part fantasy, part morality play, no one character completely virtuous, few completely bad. Schickler does a superb job of showing what makes people who they are and what makes them tick. Grace, the heroine, is trying for God but has a well developed libido and taste for revenge. Henry Dante is a former enforcer for a mobster, Honey Pobrinkis, who would make a marvelous role for a truly great character actor like Tom Wilkinson. The book is a wild ride and packs more into ist relatively short length than some can in double this. HIGHLY recommended.
