Teen superheroes whose parents are super villains? Yes please! Runaways is an action-packed comic book starring teens who run away from home and vow to fight their evil legacy.

While Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona wrote and illustrated this series, the stories and artwork were top notch. It was a very fun and engaging story. I remember enjoying it immensely as a kid. The series stood out among its peers in that its protagonists were very diverse and interesting. One character was genderqueer, another was glbt, and the other characters were either Japanese American, African American or Latin American. This story went on for a few years under Vaughan and Alphona until the writers were switched and the series went to hell. Prior to the switch, everything was top notch though. I would recommend it to younger readers in particular though the writing is interesting enough to engage older readers as well.

I got this graphic novel out as soon as I heard that Marvel was adapting the series for television. After reading it I can see why they decided to, and am excited for it when it does finally come out! Quite an intense plot, and a fair few interesting characters. 7/10 stars

This is a lot of fun (especially the dialogue) but certain themes make it more appropriate for older teens. The art (especially the coloring) seemed bland to me.

Dear Brian K. Vaughan,
Thank you for making me laugh, while subverting my expectations and inserting a bit of socio-political commentary. I love your brain.
Thanks,
Me

And also: read this graphic novel if you enjoy humor, consistently great art and awesome character-driven stories. Everything this guy writes, I will read. It started with Y: The Last Man, and this is the second (but not last) series. I lurves it all.

A lot of fun, with original ideas. Whereas Young Avengers reads like a great piece of Fan Fiction, every piece of this is new and fresh!

Violence: The super-powered main characters are mostly saved from harm, but many regular humans in the story are not.
