The premise seemed like it had merritt. You would think gamers would be attracted to it.

I just couldn't get into it. You'd almost have to assume there would be tons of, what under normal circumstances would be unnecessary violence, owing to the environment of gaming, but I still found it difficult to get past.

I'm not even certain there was a valid plot; I just couldn't get that far.

Someone was pointing out all the violence lately and how it was never like that in the past: I really had to ponder if gaming didn't have something to do with it...

Honestly, I couldn't get through this movie at all. I stopped half way through--and that's after I was walking around doing chores and occasionally checking in on the movie. I did watch probably the first ten minutes, but when doing chores intrigues you more, you know it's a bad movie. I didn't care about the characters nor the plot. It had a great premise, but the execution was bad, bad, bad.

Bad movie

Gerard Butler's acting ability is so great that he can overcome even the most bad script out there. Go Gerry Go.

See succinct comments from "DavidB May 09, 2010". The success of the renegades at the end of the 90 minutes was too convenient and near absurd.

Lots of action but no plot.

Pretty good action flick. Don't look for anything more serious than that, and this movie is good for an evening of entertainment.

Loved the look and the concept of this movie. The action was wild, but I think almost over the top at times. Too much going on at the same time with the action shot from so many angles with strange lighting and massive explosions and oh so many bullets. Still very well done view of a dark future. Wild visuals and vivid colors abound in the "society" scenes. Entertaining.

Was similar to the movie Surrogate, but with a video game theme. I'm glad I waited for the DVD because it's not worth full admission.

Announcer: Slayers, if "Society" let us
live through others,
"Slayers" could let us
die through others.
Slayers gives the gamer full control
of a flesh and blood human being,
in full scale
kill or be killed combat.
And when we say "flesh and blood"
We mean, flesh...
and blood.

Crowd cheers: - Slayers.- Slayers!

Gina: Why isn't it murder?
Announcer: Gina, when was the last time you saw someone
volunteer to be murdered?
I'm sure you know that every last one
of our Slayers is a bonified death row inmate.
Each one offered the chance to participate
as an alternative to their sentences.
If you stay alive for 30 sessions,
you can get set free.
That's not a bad goddamn deal.
Gina: And has any of these men or women have
actually survived long enough to be set free?
Announcer:
Well I remind the audience that Slayers
was put together with a full cooperation
and approval, of the United States
Federal government.
That the revenue that produces...
is responsible for funding
our entire prison system...
keeping the bad guys
behind bars. ...

"Society" took the
world by storm,
becoming the number one guilty
pleasure of billions.
You can get paid
to be controlled,
or you can pay to control.
And generating one of the world's
largest private fortunes,
surpassing Bill Gates
practically, over night.
Nine months ago,
Castle availed a new simulation.
One that would take gaming into new heights
of thrilling excess...
and controversy.

Violence: Not nearly as gruesome as Saving Private Ryan. It was bloody but had none of the relevance as Spielberg’s Magnum Opus. Even though Gamer was bloody, I was actually bored by all of the carnage. What does it say about today's society that a film about people get killed for entertainment failed to instill any emotion in me? Maybe it's just the fault of the filmmakers.

Sexual Content: In a “Sims” inspired world, perverts control real people and make them do raunchy things. T and A galore. The filmmakers/directors were trying to criticize people who go online and let loose their creepy perversions but all you have to do is listen to their audio commentary to see that their just as misogynistic and sexist. How's that for poetic irony?
