Growing up more a Hagar fan, I'm now looking back at releases before 1984. It's hard to find songs on this album that fans haven't heard many times. It's all good.
Ok. Van Halen.
For decades all I knew of them were their many radio hits, and I never thought much of the song "Running With The Devil", compared to their more energetic songs. Then I got this album from the library, out of curiosity to hear their "non-hits". Wow.
I tend to get reminded every now and then about the importance of hearing entire albums of bands versus greatest hits collections and random radio play, and the first Van Halen album is such a HUGE example of that ideology.
Also, this album is a great example of a band peaking with their first album, which can be rare, as usually bands tend to peak around album three or four.
What a perfect example of a complete album that has zero flaws from start to finish! I'm glad I checked this out and I've already put holds on their next two albums to hopefully discover more music from this important band.
KICKS ASS. :)
Best album ever from Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. They just don't make good rock music like this anymore. Enjoy :-)
