Young academic David Peto was one of the very few to have seen the films since the Second World War. They were unpleasant and harrowing, but necessary for his thesis on the organization of the Nazi extermination camps and they required hour-after-hour of grim viewing in the myterious Dr Berg's isolated research facility on the bleak Suffolk coast. As a researcher, Peto always hoped to discover the unexpected, but he was totally unprepared for an explosion in the film store whic propels him into a conspiracy involving competing intelligence agencies and the sinister ODESSA organisation. Could he have inadvertently identified a wanted Nazi war criminal on one of the films - a war criminal now living somewhere in England? Peto becomes ensnared in a dangerous game of hide-and-seek across London which culminates in an audacious burglary of the Imperial War Museum and a vicous shoot-out on the roof of Waterloo Station.
