I rate this a "very good" read. Moves along nicely with plenty of detail from the 30,000 foot level without getting lost in the 'day in the life' minutia, which other books do real well. This is an overview of the Union troops - Explaining: Union Armies, Corps, and Generals relationship Catton is a top notch writer. Published in '56 at 60 this book still relevant and a bucket list for those who dig deeper that the Gettysburg crowd
