The interest of this story is that it is told as a fable or traditional folktale. It tells of a woman who flees Eastern Europe, with its patriarchy and superstitions, to New York City and of her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Only with the fourth generation does the daughter understand her family's history and break free of it. Interesting.
