Post-apocalyptic/dystopian, and it will be too slow for most people.
I finally got to watch this, as I only knew of a later version called The Omega Man starring Charlton Heston.
The Omega Man was repeated a lot on TV in the 1970s and 1980s, and clearly it was a remake (for the most part) of this Vincent Price classic.
Since I never seen it before, I skipped the black and white version , for the colourized one on this dvd. Dark / dingy lighting, sort of like a Hammer Horror or any horror B-movie released later.

Released in 1964 (and filmed in b&w) - Had it not been for this Italian Sci-Fi/Horror film's low-budget, amateurish direction, and its terrible miscasting of wimp-actor, Vincent Price - Then, yes - Perhaps I might have ranked it higher than I did.

Based on Richard Matheson's apocalyptic story "I Am Legend" (which he wrote in 1954) - The one thing that this film is notable for is that it is probably one of the very first horror movies to actually portray zombies as being rampaging, ravenous creatures.

And, in that particular vein - This film predates George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" by four years.

Clearly tame by today's standards of flesh/blood-lusting zombies - This film actually might have appealed to me more had it not starred the lisping, effeminate, Vincent Price whose lack-lustre performance seriously marred the story's potential from start to finish.

As last men on Earth go, Vincent Price is in the "not if you were the" category. . As an actor, though, he was highly underrated. Here, he gives his character a third dimension, and makes this film well worth watching.

This is a 1964 science fiction horror film directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, based on the Richard Matheson 1954 novel ("I Am Legend").
It was filmed in Rome, Italy, with some location shots taken at Esposizione Universale Roma.
After burying the dog Morgan spots a woman in the distance.
The woman, Ruth, is terrified of Morgan at first sight, and runs from him.
Morgan convinces her to return to his home, but is suspicious of her true nature.
Ruth becomes ill when Morgan waves garlic in her face, but claims that she has a weak stomach.
Morgan's suspicion that Ruth is infected is confirmed when he discovers her attempting to inject herself with a combination of blood and vaccine that holds the disease at bay.
Ruth tells him that she is part of a group of people like her, infected but under treatment.
At the end, Ruth's people spot Morgan and chase him.
Morgan is wounded by gunfire and retreats into a church.
Despite Ruth's protests to let Morgan live, his pursuers finally impale him on the altar with a spear.
With his dying breaths, Morgan denounces his pursuers as "freaks," and declares that he is the last true man on earth.
I really wonder what will happen to Ruth's people.
