Add a CommentFairly typical BBC/PBS movie. Good acting, interesting story which is apparently mostly true. No subtitles but we did get the closed captioning to work on the TV settings so that helped. A couple of the actors I have seen in recent years on various BBC/Acorn/PBS shows.
Underperforming but mildly entertaining look at a woman whose life was not all that secret.
i liked this movie. it made me laugh and sometimes i wanted to cry. wiki gives different account of the events of beeton's lives and deaths
Lively, informative and entertaining look at the life of a very interesting young woman and her times. I would have given it five stars but it presumes the speculations of the book's author to be true when there is actually no evidence for the seeming slander thus perpetrated. The issue involved is important and dealt with perceptively but it should have been dealt with by adding a fictional character and not be giving the impression that one of the real characters in the story was blameworthy. Otherwise, the historical details are well done. The characters well-rounded and engaging.
What a great PBS production!
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie - from the filming style to the actors cast in their role. Especially endearing was Mrs. Beeton - from the fight to wed her chosen husband to the horrible tragedies she suffered losing her children to the even more horrible secret she discovered on her death bed, yet through it all her character persevered and her strength is admirable, even today!
