Each day offers encouragement and hope from a Savior who is closer than you can imagine and who will never leave you. nbsp;

Grow in a deep personal faith while reading a message that everyone needs to hear and embrace deep within the soul. Jesus Calling ®nbsp;is a devotional that is read daily by more thannbsp;six million people. This version includes the beloved original content, but with a modern cover that will appealnbsp;to a younger audience.

After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her. It was awkward at first, but gradually her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue. She knew her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, but journaling helped her grow closer to God, and from that experience Jesus Calling ® came to be.

It is Sarah's fervent prayer that our Savior may bless every reader with His presence and His peace in ever deeper measure.

Meets national education standards.

This book was given to me as a gift, and what a special gift it is. When I go for a time without reading the daily devotionals, I miss it. It's a wonderful way to start the day, thinking about what Jesus has to say and teach each of us about living a life of peace and joy.

When Sarah Young began journaling the messages she heard in prayer, her prayer life changed from mostly talking to actively listening. These daily devotional readings are some of the things she heard. Messages of encouragement and learning to trust, they are written as if Jesus is speaking directly to the reader. Young notes in her Introduction that these do not carrying the same weight as scripture. However, they are compatible with scripture. Each brief daily reading has a few suggestions to read in the Bible, and Young encourages readers to keep their own journal as they journey through the book. "Jesus Calling" is similar in some ways to "The Little Notebook" by Nicole Gausseron. Gausseron, a Catholic woman living in France, began keeping a notebook of what she heard Jesus saying, and (though not a devotional) she also tells what she heard. Readers who enjoy "Jesus Calling" may also like other devotionals such as L.B Cowman's book of little gems, "Streams in the Desert," Oswald Chambers' "My Utmost For His Highest," and Charles Spurgeon's devotionals, "Morning and Evening," and "Faith's Checkbook." "Jesus Calling" differs from those books because it is written from, in a way, Jesus' perspective--in His voice.

"These messages are meant to be read slowly, preferably in a quiet place. I invite you to keep a journal to record any thoughts or impressions you receive as you wait in His Presence. Remember that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. May He bless you with His Presence and Peace in ever-increasing measure." -- From the Introduction by "Jesus Calling" author Sarah Young

"Do not worry about tomorrow! This is not a suggestion, but a command ... Throw off this oppressive burden with one quick thrust of trust. Anxious thoughts meander about and crisscross in your brain, but trusting Me brings you directly into My Presence ...." --entry for July 15; words are for Jesus' followers, and are related to the day's suggested readings of Matthew 6:24, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and Psalm 62:8"

After several tangible experiences of God's Presence, counselor and missionary Sarah Young began to seek listening to God in prayer, and wrote down what she heard. She made some of those journal entries into this devotional. Each daily reading is 1 or 2 paragraphs long, followed by 2 or 3 scripture passages as suggestions on what to read from the Bible. (Note: In a reference given as, for example, Psalms 46:10, the book name is "Psalms," the chapter is 46, and the verse is 10.) Upbeat and encouraging, "Jesus Calling" is a lovely little book of words that inspire and assist in a walk of faith. A nice little gift book, there is a presentation page (to write who the book is to and from) and an Introduction where Young describes her journey of faith and what led to her writing this book. A CD of music by popular artist inspired by the book is available, as is a children's devotional version. "Jesus Calling" is also available in Spanish ("Jesus te Llama," which means "Jesus Calling," not "Jesus is a llama," just to be clear) ;-)
