With her fiancée dead after reading a cultish self-help book, determined journalist Chloe descends through unfathomable horrors to uncover the truth of "The Clean Room". Good for psychological thriller connoisseurs.

If my husband hadn't told me to finish this book, I wouldn't have made it past the first issue. The storytelling starts out jerky, uneven, and confusing. I'm glad I kept going because it does smooth out, and it's delightfully creepy after that in a very destabilizing way. Every character I like also terrifies me because I'm expecting something awful will happen with them later. By the end of the volume, I still don't know if I'm supposed to trust that ANYONE in the cast has an accurate perception of what's happening. So if that's what Simone was trying to do (and I think it was), mission accomplished.

I'm not compelled enough to buy it, but I'm definitely interested enough to read the next volume from the library.

The creep factor is incredibly high in this volume. It does start out rather confusing, but many of these types of stories do -- part of the tension is being as clueless as the protagonist. Answers are being parceled out, a bit here and a bit there, so that satisfies me. I can't wait to get my hands on volume two and learn even more!

I've always loved Gail Simone, but this is her working at her best. She has a way of taking what you think you know about a story, and turning it on its head. And she does it by fleshing out her characters in real ways, and making them well rounded. This work from Simone is some of her absolute best!

Well this hits many of my buttons. Strange occurrences, weird cult/self help group thing, some truly horrific looking beings of some sort, and a rabbit hole of a mystery. We're just getting started here too. This reminds me a lot of the Hellblazer comics, in the whole seeing things that no one else can sort thing but without the magic.

All in all, more please!
