GOOD 1992 film set in context of 'French and Indian War' - I hadn't realized that the film's military conflict plus had a historical name until I did a little research. There is a Wiki entry for it - and for 'French and Indian Wars'.
The film did have a LOT of fine action, filmography (especially all the landscaping), acting and more - but I needed more context for my historically uniformed mind about this period to understand details of the conflict between French and British colonialism in America.
The Seven Years' War (a term I also didn't recall) provides even larger international context for global conflicts been England and France.

This is one of those movies I can watch over and over, without ever getting tired of it. The landscapes are beautiful, the people are beautiful, the music is beautiful, and the costumes and sets are marvelous. The action scenes are grand, and a bit over-the-top (Hawkeye does not miss a single rifle shot in the entire movie), but so much fun that you won’t stop to worry about little things like that. Wes Studi nearly steals the whole show as the intensely menacing villain. My one reservation about the story is that Hawkeye’s adoptive family, Mohicans Chingachgook and Uncas, seem to have almost no goals or lives of their own and pursue Hawkeye’s interests almost like loyal hounds rather than human beings. But I suspect that’s a fault of the original book, which I must confess I was never able to wade through. But enough carping. Go watch one of the best adventure movies yet made, and enjoy it.

Best movie/soundtrack ever made. Period.

In reading the reviews I noted many comments about the soundtrack.
The main theme- The Gael- was written by a superb Scottish musician, Dougie MacLean. He has an amazing compendium of songs & instrumental pieces, wonderful music to check out. Not sure if library has any CD's, but there should be some!!
Movie is extremely well done, lush cinematography, gripping storyline, and of course, stupendous scoring.

A action packed romantic period movie of colonial America, native American, British & French armies. Beautifully filmed, acted and score with outstanding music. PG 13 due to warfare and hand-to-hand bloody combat. The music score itself is magnificent and thought provoking you'll always remember.

An action packed romance movie. The music complements the story well. This movie is a must if you are a history nerd!

Hawkeye: No! You stay alive! If they don't kill you, they'll take you north up to the Huron lands. Submit, do you hear? You're strong! You survive! You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you! No matter how long it takes, no matter how far. I will find you!

Chingachgook: "Great Spirit, and The Maker of All Life... A warrior goes to you swift and straight as an arrow shot into the sun. Welcome him, and let him take his place at the council fire of my people. He is Uncas, my son. Tell them to be patient, and ask death for speed; for they are all there, but one... I, Chingachgook -- last of the Mohicans."

Chingachgook: "The frontier moves with the sun, and pushes the Red Man of these wilderness forests in front of it, until one day... there will be nowhere left. Then our race will be no more... or be not us." Hawkeye: "That is my father's sadness talking." Chingachgook: "No, it is true. The frontier place is for people like my white son, and his woman, and their children. And one day there will be no more frontier. And men like you will go too, like the Mohicans. And new people will come, work, struggle. Some will make their life. But once... we were here."
