An enjoyable read with three - count them, three! - strong female characters. Phoenix Smith, former CIA operative, returns to her Missouri hometown after years away and finds some things have changed. There's a sizable population of immigrant workers. Meth use is on the rise. And her best friend's husband, the county sheriff, has been found dead along with a young woman rumored to be his mistress.

The case has been ruled a murder/suicide, but Smith's friend refuses to believe her husband was cheating. She thinks he was set up by someone he was investigating, possibly another police officer. Smith puts her sleuthing skills to use to help solve the case.
