This book advocates allowing the child to "own" their own homework. If they start to flunk because of missing homework, that is the child's problem and not the parent's. Very solid reasoning, a very do-able
solution.
I tried the methods outlined and after my child flunked a semester... and didn't care... I followed through with a psych evaluation and we found the help he needed. This is covered in the book, too: what to do when your kid is flunking and doesn't care.

No nosense advice for smart and caring parents who want their kids to grow into responsible adults and not just kids with good grades.
