Ash takes place in a dystopian future world. Two girls, Madden Sumner and Dax, are in completely opposite rings: Madden is a Purple, destined to be Minister of the Seven. Dax is an Ash, destined for...nothing. The book is clean and action-packed, filled with mystery and romance, with a surprise at every turn. I recommend Ash for teens aged 13 and up, as there is some graphic content. It was a bit confusing for me to start reading. The author doesn’t do a great job on setting the two characters apart from each other, as I didn’t realize the chapters alternated between Madden and Dax at first. However, once I got past that, it was easy to dive into the story. The book ends with a cliff-hanger, which then leads to the next book in the Destined series, coming out this September, 2017: Ultraviolet. I learned from Ash that you can’t always count on destiny to make a path for you. You need to make your own path, create your own life, but you need to be careful of the steps you choose to take. A valuable lesson for teenagers who decide to read this. 4 out of 5 stars.
