I liked this cartoon fiction DVD. The graphics are well done. It is good for all ages. The story is strong. The characters are deep. It is not realistic. If you enjoy native mythology stories about how the earth was created, you will enjoy this story. In this book: A mythic adventure set around 2,000 years ago across a series of islands in the South Pacific. The film follows the journey of a spirited teenager named Moana as she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui, and together they traverse the open ocean, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. The goal is to restore the green heart in Ta Hiti to bring back the fish into the ocean and stop the islands and trees from dying. Since Maui is the one who stole the heart, he must put it back. The ending will be a pleasant surprise.

If he's nothing without the hook, then he shouldn't have it at all.

Ungreat, but pretty good. Hard not to be enjoyable with all the water, sun, pretty heroine and hammy Maui the demigod.
There was one huge flaw, depending on how sensitive you are to such things... the music is AWFUL. We're talking Celine Dion Dream the Impossible Dream schmaltz here. At one point the Maui character says, "If you're going to break into song, i'm going to throw up." I think the writers snuck (sneaked, snoked?) that in that zinger in a wry comment on the movies music.
And the 'Teh Hiti' Earth Goddess figure, a Polynesian Gaia- well how often do you get to see It in media, brought to glorious personification!?
See it already (with earplugs if you have to)- if you like Hawaiian pizza (pineapple, ham).

A beautiful movie which had me hooked till the end. I loved how Moana bought mythology and history to life and made it so enjoyable and fun. Moana was funny and sweet and also lesson giving. Loved it!

I have travelled through much of the "Polynesian Triangle," from Hawai'i, to New Zealand, to the Cook Islands, to Tonga, and to French Polynesia. I thought that "Moana" was respectful of this culture, while making a movie that would appeal to a wide range of ages and knowledge about this courageous, and navigationally sophisticated civilization. The songs were not particularly memorable (with the exception of the choral navigation number, "We know where we are.") The fact that both Hawaiian-language and Maori-language versions have been made is evidence that Polynesian societies see themselves reflected in this film.

Did not keep my attention nearly as much as I thought it would. I still enjoyed it though, don't get me wrong! I guess I just expected a lot more after all the hype.

I just barrowed this DVD just 3 weeks ago and the reson i had barrowed it because my Teacher from my school put on the music video clip from the movie i told her that i had barrowed it before but i just forgot i had it and i had to retrun it and she said it's a good movie and i said i hope it is as good as the movie Frozen and well i descided to put a hold on it again i had to retrun it yesterday cause i renewed it again but i forgot to watch it so i have to watch it this time Today Maybe not but maybe tomorrow because today is the ocsers and tomorrow is the Batcherlete on t.v on City T.V. when i saw Maui running i did n't know that he was going to turn himslef into a bird that surpriesd me i didn't evan know that she was telling a story we are going to watch this movie at school on Thursday next week they showed on city T.V that a little girl was having the doll from the movie but i did start the movie today it is Monday i thought i won't be able to watch it cause i usally don't watch it on Monday but i did today when her grandma said the heart of Te Fiti it remines me of Brother bear when Tenana gives Kenai the Bear of love she says your totem is love i don't know why but it does i watched Brother Bear in 2005 in grade school. When Moana sees the water come alive she says "I thought that was a dream." and after she gets wet, her grandma says "Nope." Also, when Moana wanted her tribe to help her it reminds me of Pocahontas. Then, Moana finds her grandma's walking stick and they think something is wrong and they find her and that she is dying. I knew that she was going to die when I saw that part. Later, when Moana is in the ocean, my brother knew that Hei Hei the chicken was on the boat and later when Hei Hei screamed, I screamed at the same time. My brother thought it was funny when he kept screaming and he was drinking soda when that part was on when her granny says what ever happens blame it on the pig my brother and i laughed and my brother made a act for the pig running and that she asks her are you going to tell dad she asks her grandma and she says i'm his mom i don't have to and she said it's time to put my stone on the mountion and she says ok and we laughted my brother and i she says a lot of funny things I really like the song How Far I Go i was singing to this song in the movie and the end crededs and the Music Video the music video was the best by Alyessa cara i was just watching the music video by her singing Scares on my computer i do have a moana Mazagzine i got in july and Yesterday i got a Moana Giant sticker pad with play scenes Aug 17 2018 and disney princess i have it too a Gianat sticker pad with play scenes.

Moana: Okay, first, I am not a princess. I'm the daughter of the chief.
Maui: Same difference.
Moana: No.
Maui: If you wear a dress, and have an animal sidekick, you're a princess.

Long ago, the goddess of creation, Te Fiti, spread life all over the earth. The key to this was her heart. The heart was very powerful, but Maui, a demigod, wanted that power. He stole the heart from her and what came was darkness and monsters. The greatest monster, Te Ka, a lava monster hit Maui. With this, he lost his hook... and the heart.
A 1,000 years later, Gramma Tala is telling the story to the children of the village of Motanui. She forsees that one of the children will go out and find Maui and return the heart of Te Fiti. A little girl, daughter of the Chief Tui and Sina, named Moana is chosen by the ocean. Ever since then, she has been drawn to the ocean and expresses her love for it in every way of her life. She does not realize that she was chosen until many years later before Gramma Tala dies.
Moana sets off to find Maui in determination to save her island. Once she finds Maui, she realizes Maui stole the heart so he could give the power of life to the mortals and his hook is missing. Maui takes Moana's boat to get his hook and tries to keep Moana out of it by putting her in a cave. Moana manages to escape the cave and tries to get on her boat, but misses her landing spot. The ocean helps her get on her boat. Maui attempts to throw her out, but the ocean keeps putting her back. Maui knew he lost the "fight" when he tried to escape the boat and the ocean put him back on too.
Moana realizes Maui was afraid of the heart because he told her it was a curse and bad things would come for it. Moana thought he was kidding and started shouting for someone to get it, but then the Kakamoras, murdering little pirates, come.
