The story presented a great amount of suspense and mystery. I found myself unable to put the book down. If I could ask for anything to change, I'd simply ask for more. It almost felt as though the story ended too soon. The ending felt a tad rushed though it did tie up the loose ends.

The main character, I am happy to say, is a strong willed teen. I do see the target demographic being more for teen girls though. But if a good mystery and thriller is what you are looking for, seek no further. The book makes you want to play detective while you read. Though I admit I wasn't able to figure the ending out before I read it, which is actually kind of the greatest part. I'd love to read more from this authorl and would suggest this book to any of my friends.

Set in San Francisco, Unearthly Things is a thrilling novel following a young surfer, Janie Mason, as she moves from Hawaii to San Francisco after losing her parents. Janie moves in with her father’s old friend and his family, the Rochesters, but finds it hard to fit in with their lavish lifestyle. To make matters worse, the Rochesters are very arrogant and snobby, leaving Janie to ‘play’ with the kindest but most unsettling Rochester, Nicholas, who claims to talk to his dead sister. Just when Janie thinks it couldn’t get any worse, she beings to hear screams coming from the attic at night and later, her room unexpectedly catches on fire. As the Rochesters’ secrets begin to surface, Janie’s life continues to get darker as she learns what the Rochesters are hiding. Overall, this was a very enjoyable read that kept me up through the late hours of the night thanks to the fast paced and spellbinding plot. I am a huge fan of the horror genre and this book definitely fulfilled all my expectations. The horror aspect of Unearthly Things was right on point and it kept me on my toes throughout the whole book. Also, the plot twists were very unexpected and built up excitement until the end when everything wrapped up in a nice bundle, making for a satisfying ending. All in all, I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone interested in horror with a dash of mystery and romance!
