Shannon's colorful graphic memoir covers the everyday drama of primary school. This bright and cheerful book describes the mind-numbingly complex relationships between groups of elementary school girls. In this story, Shannon is often the lonely unpopular girl hovering along the periphery of the popular "mean girls" group.

Friendship can be rough, and Shannon Hale shows off the highs and lows of schoolyard friendships through this graphic memoir. Whether young Shannon is cooking up her own stories, or acting out her favorite scenes, by being true to herself, Shannon finds a group that likes her just the way she is. After all, "No one's destiny is to be alone," as Hale aptly puts at the end of her graphic memoir.

Its a really good graphic novel about a girl names shannon who's life is like a roller coaster going up and down. I really liked this book because Wendy, Shannon's sister, is sort of like her.

An excellent graphic on the ups and downs we go through finding real friends and dealing with bullies in elementary school.

This book told an amazing story that shows the struggle of losing and making friends. This true story novel was so good that I chose to finish it in less then a day! It's very impressive for a book to give you mixed emotions.I hope author Shannon Hale and artist LeUyen Pham make more novels!

An excellent memoir about the rocky terrain of friendship in grades 3-5. Relatable, moving, and . . . real.

Good graphic novel. It illustrated one of the things that is wrong with yesterday's millennials and today's youth. Perfect to get that point across to them. Something for society to ponder.

This book hit very close to home. It's as if Shannon had a window into my grade school life. We both started kindergarten the same year me I suffered through friends all through elementary school. I truly think so many kids will connect with this book and see themselves in Shannon's story. This is a great graphic novel. You get a real sense of Shannon's sense of awkwardness. I loved the early 80s fashions and references to pop culture at the time when being the fan of a particular group could make or break your coolness. I'm sure it's still the same but having a tape of a group was such a sense of coolness. Wonderful book!
