1787. HMS Bounty sets out on a journey through perilous seas to a tropical paradise, and into history as the one of the most ill-fated vessels in naval lore. The gripping story centers on first officer Fletcher Christian, a dandy transformed into a man of action, and Capt. William Bligh, uncompromising in his command or his cruelty.

This is a hot June season ; so loaning it & riding in the malicious sea sure cools one down. I wonder who or what technique they used to swamp the Bounty ship...would love to take part.
This is a native cultural people movie; like primate apes they show appreciation for one another through conception. No one had breast or penis exposed it was the viewers illusionary eye it was taunting.
Unlike current modern films the people are clothe. Escapism in the true cinema era where expense was not a issue.
The star does wonderful portrayal of his character; as English person here & in Japanese as Teahouse in the Autumn Moon. I believe he married the female star & had a biracial child that ended up having incest …. focus.. more on his characters than public conduct

Mutiny on the Bounty also is an illusionary eye to taunting you to see who is the true mutineer.
four clipper ships must view loan

Brando is incredible as usual >> smoldering inside > The beautiful native girls are still a film delight. Watched it on cable as a kid and still love it. Trevor Howard is great as captain Bligh ~ scenery and music is 420

I liked this DVD. I recommend this movie to adults only. It has violence. It demonstrates how abusive humans can be to each other. It has a moral story to treat everyone with respect and compassion. I like the 1930 version with Clark Gable instead of the 1960 version with Marlon Brando. 1930 version explained better what abuse took place. It presents it better emotionally. CG was more emotional in his presentation. MB was distant and uncommunicative verbally and non-verbally. 1960 version speculated (guessed) before and after the event a little more thank the 1930 version. 1960 version was ore sexually explicit. But, I recommend both movies.

The “happy natives” angle was overused, Marlon Brando’s fake English accent fooled no one, and the editor should have been flogged for dereliction of duty. But this version of Charles Nordhoff’s novel about the despotic Captain Bligh whose reign of intimidation and abuse is brought to an end when first officer Fletcher Christian leads a mutiny still makes for a grand widescreen epic. Despite the overflow of beautiful sunsets and long-legged virgins this is essentially a moral conundrum asking us to consider whether or not one wrong corrects another. Furthermore, just to muddle things a bit more, Bligh’s cargo of breadfruit which he so zealously guarded was meant to be nothing more than a cheap food source for Jamaica’s population of plantation slaves. Gorgeous to watch despite its historical inaccuracies, and Trevor Howard steals the show as the unmovable Captain.

This reminded me of an Onion headline "President orders Brando to gain 250 pounds: Star's raw sexuality too dangerous at present weight, Ike says." This 1962 production of "Mutiny on the Bounty" is best remembered for Brando's notorious behavior on set, which damaged his reputation for years and it wouldn't be until the double comeback of "The Godfather" and "Last Tango in Paris" in the 70s that he'd be taken seriously again. Sure, he was the most influential American actor of the 20th century, but you do have to wonder how great was he when he so often clashed with directors and his co-stars in what is an intensely collaborative art (film). Anyway, this film is long, boring, and bloated (The other reviewer's 5-star rating is just wrong.), despite its desire to be epic, which means it includes a prelude, intermission, and entr'acte. I recently saw an actual epic, "Lawrence of Arabia," so this suffers in comparison. Shot in 70mm, it would probably look great on the big screen and the island settings are lovely. Based on the same novel as the earlier version, starring Clark Cable as Christian and Charles Laughton as Bligh, this "Mutiny" has a less heroic, more ambiguous Christian, but a reliably sadistic Bligh (played by Trevor Howard). It is interesting to contrast the very different acting styles of Howard and Brando, who just seems detached from the whole production and in a world of his own, which includes odd accents and the occasional funny hat (Hey, Johnny Depp's career started here!). The other major actor is Richard Harris, who is forgettable. Brando fell in love and married his Tahitian co-star. He also clashed with the first director, Carol Reed, who was fired from the production, and was apparently constantly trying to re-write the script, which had numerous screenwriters attached to it. So, I guess you have to see it because it's where Brando started to lose his way, but it's a tedious, self-important movie.

Among a lifetime of iconic performances, this may be Marlon Brando's most underrated. Yet it is Trevor Howard as Captain Bligh that delivers the performance that carries the film. A sweeping, panoramic, epic, classic sea tale that delivers on every level.
