Another movie I remember fondly from seeing it when it came out in the 70ies that disappointed me today. Good actors, directed by the mighty Kubrick, loved by all - what could go wrong? Well, somehow I was unmoved by Barry's adventures. Each adventure was a cute and somewhat amusing encounter between Barry and the world - growing up in Ireland, penniless in England, war in Europe, travels through Europe as a gambler, life as a nobleman. The voice-over maintains a gentle but cynical tone. The cinematography is wonderful. But nothing really maintained my interest. Furthermore, after what seemed like many hours, I reached the Intermission, marking perhaps only a half of the film. Nothing could persuade me to continue to watch the other half.
