Suis bien heureuse de ne pas avoir lu les commentaires avant. J'ai d'abord été interpellée par le titre qui en disait long...Je ne connaissais pas l'écriture de l'auteure mais je l'avais entendue et j'avais aimé sa simplicité. Elle dit les choses sans détour sans apporter de solutions. Ce livre en est un de réflexion. Les mots nous transportent dans des zones souvent méconnues de nous-mêmes. L'auteure nous expose son humanitude en nous permettant de reconnaître la nôtre. Oui, j'en recommande la lecture si vous avez le goût d'aller un peu plus loin et de descendre avec gentillesse dans l'étang de votre être.

I heard so many good things about Anne Lamott, so I wish I hadn't started with this book. I may give another one of her books a try, but this one was just okay. It felt like something was being held back, like she wasn't being open. She discusses an uproar caused by a tweet she made about a famous transgender woman. However, in the book she never says what the tweet was or even who it was about. I looked it up, and the tweet was juvenile and cruel. By tiptoeing around what she wrote, and only being mildly apologetic about the tweet, it just made the book seem like she wasn't reflective at all. It really took me out of the book.

Interestingly, I would've read it for guidance or a heartfelt story as one reviewer said is not the purpose of this book so decided to take a pass.

I always enjoy Lamott's writing. she is so good at touching on her own foibles - and ours.

Great to read when you're feeling run down or needing to hear something hopeful. This is your vitamin. Such a cool lady, transparent soul, and the epitome of God's grace & mercy in action.

What does mercy look like in everyday life? Lamott lays bare her struggles and victories understanding and showing mercy. It doesn't have to be something heroic. Sometimes a smile to someone who looks sad is an act of mercy that fills the sender too. Lamott's writing is always genuine, funny and true to herself. I enjoyed this book.

I'm sure other fans of Lamott will like this one but I just couldn't get into it.

Anne did it again! For awhile I was hoping to feel what I felt when I read her " Travelling Mercies", that heart pain, the gut wrenching, the self examining lines such as
"There are times in our lives—scary, unsettling times—when we know that we need help or answers but we’re not sure what kind, or even what the problem or question is. We look and look, tearing apart our lives like we’re searching for car keys in our couch, and we come up empty-handed..." Yeah she succeeds in looking deep into my soul and my innermost to question things, the past, the people around me and to allow compassion and mercy, yeah even to myself. Thanks Anne!

I adore Anne Lamott, and I enjoyed reading her musings on mercy. It felt slightly more haphazard than her other books, but still full of wisdom, grace, and wit.

Anne Lamott writes with surgical precision and will resonate for anyone who has been down a hard road.
