VERY GOOD 1942 nostalgic musical biopic of 1890s composer and songwriter Paul Dresser and singer Sally Elliot set in gay 90's New York/Tin Pan Alley.
Rita Hayworth is excellent as Sally, as are Victor Mature as Paul and 'Ping Girl' Carole Landis as Mae (sad to learn about her early suicide at age 29).
Yes, the plot line is pretty thin and just separates the many excellent/lavish musical production numbers - that's the way many of these musicals were developed.
The film is an excellent early 40's musical film production - fun viewing - and I'm glad I included it in my current exploration of Hollywood film musicals from before my time.
