Tom Hanks has a way with words. While I did not love every story, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed his voice and wordsmithing. On this basis alone, I highly recommend this book. The last story held some suspense for me. While I would usually read as fast as possible to discover the outcome, I forced my self to read slowly and savor every single sentence.
How he can write so knowingly on such a wide range of unrelated topics kept me shaking my head in wonder.
And, yes, it makes me want to TYPE a letter to someone!

"Uncommon Type" is a book of short stories by the actor Tom Hanks. The common thread in this 'uncommon' work is a typewriter. Every story has a typewriter playing a role. I read the names Olivetti,Underwood, Remington, and so on as a wave of nostalgia coursed through me. I cursed myself for giving away my IBM Selectric and this book is so well written that I just might start going to flea markets to find a deal on an antique typewriter.
