From stand-up comedian, actress, and breakout star of Girls Trip, Tiffany Haddish, comes The Last Black Unicorn, a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays, as fearless as the author herself.Growing up in one of the poorest neighborhoods of South Central Los Angeles, Tiffany learned to survive by making people laugh. If she could do that, then her classmates would let her copy their homework, the other foster kids she lived with wouldn't beat her up, and she might even get a boyfriend. Or at least she could make enough money-as the paid school mascot and in-demand Bar Mitzvah hype woman-to get her hair and nails done, so then she might get a boyfriend. None of that worked (and she's still single), but it allowed Tiffany to imagine a place for herself where she could do something she loved for a living: comedy. Tiffany can't avoid being funny-it's just who she is, whether she's plotting shocking, jaw-dropping revenge on an ex-boyfriend or learning how to handle her newfound fame despite still having a broke person's mind-set. Finally poised to become a household name, she recounts with heart and humor how she came from nothing and nowhere to achieve her dreams by owning, sharing, and using her pain to heal others. By turns hilarious, filthy, and brutally honest, The Last Black Unicorn shows the world who Tiffany Haddish really is-humble, grateful, down-to-earth, and funny as hell. And now, she's ready to inspire others through the power of laughter.

After all she's been through it's nice to see her getting her just due. She is a funny story teller. The Groupon story with Jada Pinkett and Will Smith is a classic!!

Tiffany shares her story, I laughed, I cried. It's a quick easy read you could finish in a day. I honestly didn't know such horrifying life stories existed. Tiffany is humorous and the novel ends on more of a cheery note. I find myself really hoping for the best for her. I'm a fan.

I think I saw this book on someone's Instagram stories so I added it to my library list. I don't know anything about Tiffany, but apparently she is a pretty famous comedian. When I found that out I was expecting this book to be funny... it's not. It is about her real life experiences that she's lived and that have brought her to where she is today. And let's just say they are real and raw - including things like rape, domestic violence, etc. I think because I went into this book assuming it was going to be a comedy I was thrown off and didn't love it. I appreciate that she was keeping it real and her underlying theme of "if I can get through this, so can you" but it just didn't completely resonate with me. It was a very quick read though so I didn't feel like I had committed too much time not to see it through to the end. (Maybe knowing her and her type of comedy might have given me more insight before picking up the book as well.) I would give it a 5 out of 10.

Using the hardships of her very rough life, Tiffany from start to finish sends the message that life’s adversities can make your successes, it just depends on how you chose to deal with them. I often didn’t know whether to laugh or cry for her, but she lets you know that this is no Tiffany pity party. I enjoyed her deadpan style of sharing her experiences and I valued her message.

Comedian Tiffany Haddish is simply funny. You’ll find yourself laugh with her as you read this memoir. Growing up in the hood and abused in many ways, she has made it. Her life story is heart breaking yet inspiring.

Tiffany Haddish tells it like it is in this biography- being abused in foster care as a child, by her mom, by her ex husband, and how she used her gift in comedy to get her through sticky situations.
