A beautifully illustrated non-fiction picture book with many relatable themes--ideal for an older primary student audience, perhaps even junior students. A great tie-in with the movie of the same title. It concludes with a useful timeline of events, brief bios of the lives of these four women, a glossary of terms as well as an author's note. Worthy of a borrow!

From author Margot Lee Shetterly comes a kid-friendly version of her famous book about the insanely intelligent women who worked for NASA as "computers." This beautifully illustrated non-fiction title reads like a picture book, and would be perfect as a read-aloud for middle grade students. These persistent women overcame many obstacles to succeed, and coincidentally, all four were high school math teachers at some point in their careers.

Who said picture books are just for little kids? I learned from this book that Dorothy Johnson Vaughan, who taught herself FORTRAN and became NASA's first African-American supervisor, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Hand this book to kids looking for a local, inspirational heroine, or anyone interested in space exploration.
