When the first manned mission to Mars meets with a catastrophic and mysterious disaster, a rescue mission is launched to investigate the tragedy and bring back any survivors. Visually stunning scene design and photography by director Brian De Palma.

I've seen this before but forgot about it. Lately I got on a Gary Sinise kick, so I thought to pick it up again. What can I say? A number of good actors in a film I'm sure they did their best in but the film itself doesn't do them justice. The film doesn't seem to know which film it is. Is it a hard sci-fi piece? Is it a disaster film? Some 2001? Dips into Dune? There are elements to the story that could work well if only it could lose the extra stories/ideas/writers/directors/writer-directors and the actual director for a director who knows how to direct sci-fi ... this seems to be directed by a NASA nerd who needs to get out more.

Average special effects but great acting. The ending is kind of cheesy.
