This book was really ridiculous, but in a GOOD way. In this book Nora goes on a camping trip with her now Ex-Boyfriend.On her camping trip she decides to take a walk and stumbles upon a BEAR! I know a bear! Anyway Nora freaks out for OBVIOUS reason and runs away dropping something on the trail. This Bear takes it upon himself to find her and bring it back to her somewhere in Los Angeles where she lives. The two somehow strike up a relationship, although it isn't clearly discerned how?? Which is why I'm stating that this book was just okay. This books plot line although silly isn't really explained, and it was a really, really quick read. I felt like this book either could have been heavily expanded or heavily condensed since there really wasn't much to it. I did like this book just in the fact that it was such a silly concept. I also really liked the artwork and coloring of this book.

My perfect world is one in which people have seen me closely and clearly enough to make amazing personalized book recommendations. This is one such book. I'm looking at books about relationships differently lately and this was certainly a different kind of relationship story. I don't read many graphic novels but I found this one to be delightful.

The title is the premise, and this book delivers just that. A tight mix of joy, humor and heart bring this book to life. The author is a Portland local. Surprisingly not suitable for kids.

This was unreasonably cute. I loved it despite myself.

Nora tried dating men but they always let her down. So a chance encounter with a black bear means a fresh start for Nora's love life. Nora must deal with the struggles and advantages her new relationship brings to her life. The concept is unique and entertaining. The art allowed the characters to show their personality especially when one main character is a bear that doesn't speak except for grumbles. This graphic novel is centered toward mature teens and adults.

This was very cute. Thank goodness it was a story because I could see someone actually doing this with a bear.

An unexpectedly cute love story. Nora is an average twenty-something just trying to get by, and her boyfriend, Bear is... a black bear. I know it sounds weird, but it works in the context of this slim graphic novel. Nora takes us through the ups and downs that come with dating a bear (e.g., he eats garbage when he thinks she isn't looking, but he's great at cuddling). Her best friends are torn (one thinks he's a riot while the other worries for her safety), her mom thinks it's a phase, and of course there's the issue of hibernation. How will they handle the seasonal separation? I didn't expect to find it so sweet, and I also didn't expect to find myself rooting for this couple! Cat Farris' illustrations are adorable. I would love to see more adult comics from her!

Nice art and a fun read. Graphic novel about the woes of dating. Super cute, but not for kids.

This bizarre little comic has the power to make you cackle in hysterics and also get just a touch choked up with feels. I knew going in that My Boyfriend is a Bear was not allegory—but actually experiencing the story of a woman meeting and falling in love with a literal bear...who understands English and wears clothes...was something else. But it's Pamela Ribon's writing and character development that really get you; being in Nora's head and experiencing the ups and downs of her life, her relationships with her boyfriend and her family, and all the other little details. It's a quick, fun read, and I really wish there were more. Sadly, this stands alone. But anything by Pamela Ribon (including SLAM! which was the first of her comics I read) will give you the same kind of feels and fun.

It's not a metaphor or an allegory, Nora is, indeed, dating a bear. can interspecies love survive the changing of the seasons?? It's funny and strange, so if you are looking for something different, give this graphic novel a try.
