"Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she's worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment. In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect. How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best?a masterpiece of a novel that is both hopeful and hilarious; truthful and wise; tender and brave"--

I absolutely LOVED this book! I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a reminder that life is a journey filled with ups and downs. If you appreciate the highs and try to find the bright spots where you can during the lows - you'll be just fine.

Finding courage in the face of adversity. Moving forward when you want to quit. Learning how to walk away from old plans into a new path and purpose for your life.

Margaret Jacobsen has worked hard to achieve her MBA and land her dream job. Her fear of flying is overridden by her boyfriend Chip's enthusiasm to take her up in a Cessna to propose marriage. His inexperience ends in a crash sending Margaret into hospital with severe injuries.

Margaret's journey through recover is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Her family rally around her, hospital staff and her physical therapist support and challenge her. Margaret comes to some major decisions through learning to be vigilant with her thoughts and decisions, a life lesson we all need to learn.

A wonderfully moving novel.

Well written with believable dialogue, sympathetic characters & a plot line that holds all the way through. Similar to Jojo Moyes's Me Before You but more hopeful.

How to Walk Away is a fast read about resiliency and moving forward in the face of tragic circumstances. I finished it over the course of 2 evenings and enjoyed it thoroughly.

my blurb!
A book about a woman who is faced with how to overcome when you really don’t feel like you have it in you.

what i liked
Everything! This is required reading!
I loved the main character, Maggie. She was strong, and real, and fragile and amazing! (I know, with that description, don’t you just want to be friends with her?!)
I loved her sister, Kit. She was quirky, and resilient, and funny.
There were so many good characters in this book. The plot had some really funny elements in it (like accidentally attending an ex’s wedding. hah!) As I’m describing this book I want to make sure I capture its genre so you know what you’re getting into. (I’ve heard a lot of people had this problem with Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – thinking it was a comedy). I would call this book a drama with some comedy in it. Okay maybe it would be called a dramedy.
The writing was amazing. I’ve had some crazy hospital experiences myself- nothing like this, but the way that the author portrayed the way that time is different in the hospital – it was so realistic! So much of her journey- it rang true! I imagine Katherine Center did a lot of research for this to be the case and it paid off.
Overall this book had an amazing message in it that I loved reading and having reiterated throughout the novel.
I read this book in less than 24 hours, I would recommend it easily and would buy it and loan it out to friends. If that’s not a 5 star read, I don’t know what is!

what i didn't like

Watch: Grease
Listen to: Let it Be
