In today's world where "fake news" is a commonly-heard phrase and internet hoaxes abound, this story from 80 years ago rings amazingly true, and acts as a terrific conversation-starter. Our library has it cataloged as children's nonfiction, but I would recommend for teen and adult reading lists as well.
