Spooky and mysterious. Talking animals and boy and girl main characters make this a book for anyone that likes a little magic with their mysteries.
When the Tinker family is offered a lucrative contract to fix a cuckoo clock in a mysterious house, it's an offer they can't refuse. Soon, they realize that this is far from an ordinary clock. It is in fact the key to protecting the house and its inhabitants from the evil creeping in from the surrounding woods. Warning: The ending is a cliff hanger with a sequel in the works!
This is possibly an odd reaction to have to a book, but I spent much of the time I was reading this thinking, “This would make such a good movie.” And I stand by that! This would be a perfect kids’ movie – spooky but not too scary, set in an old, possibly haunted house in the woods, and with a feel-good story underneath all the eeriness. I didn’t completely love this, but I think it’s a thoroughly enjoyable read for the kids in your life.
