"More than three thousand years ago, two armies faced off in an epic battle that rewrote history--the Trojan War. The Iliad, Homer's legendary account of this decade-long ordeal, is considered the greatest war story of all time and one of the most important works of Western literature. In this thoroughly researched and artfully rendered graphic novel, renowned illustrator Gareth Hinds captures all the grim glory of Homer's epic. Dynamic illustrations take readers directly into the battle and lay bare the complex emotions of the men, women, and gods whose struggles fueled the war and determined its outcome. Paris, prince of Troy, has stolen the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta. To get her back and take revenge, the Greeks assemble a fleet of a thousand ships to conquer Troy. After nearly a decade of fighting, will a falling-out between the greatest Greek captains, Agamemnon and Achilles, offer hope to the Trojans--or doom them all? This companion volume to Hinds's adaptation of The Odyssey features notes, maps, a character key, and other tools to help readers understand all the action and drama of Homer's Iliad"--Book jacket.

Great edition of the Iliad without getting bogged down in the words. If you want to read the 600+ page story fast, read this version.

Iliad is a graphic novel based around the siege of troy. The graphic novel gave some details about the history behind the war. It also incorporated greek mythology in the battle as well. This helped a lot as I did not know much about both the real and fantasy parts in the siege. The illustrations and expressions in the book are average based on other graphic novels I have seen. Overall, I would recommend this book to kids 10 and older if they have some spare time.

Gareth Hinds has authored a number of graphic novels of classic literature, but this was my first taste of his work. I was only casually familiar with The Iliad previously, and this was a welcome sampling -- perfect either to get a taste of what the story is all about, or as a jumping-off point toward the more complex editions. I had hoped initially to pass this copy on to my third grader, who is enamored with all things mythology right now, but the violence is depicted extremely graphically so I'll likely postpone sharing it with her for a little while yet. My advance copy was black-and-white only, but the cover indicated that the final release would be in full color. I look forward to seeing it, as well as reading Hinds' previous graphic novel of The Odyssey.
