A group of brave Polish pilots known as Squadron 303 fought in the skies over England in World War II, not just to keep Great Britain free from the Nazis, but also to keep alive the very idea of their own country, which had existed in its modem form for barely 20 years before it was crushed between the opposing jaws of Germany and Russia. Equipped with the almost-obsolete Hurricane airplane and RAF blue uniforms, they fought, and Poland lived.

I give this movie 5 stars! It's based on the true story of the Polish Air Force pilots who made their way to England to fly with the RAF in the Battle of Britain. At first the Brits were dismissive of the Poles, until they beat the crap out of the Luftwaffe! If you like a good yarn with the good guys winning, this is for you.

Refreshingly different viewing for people interested in World War 2 history. Based on fact this tells the story of the Polish pilots from the 302 & 303 squadron in the RAF Northolt who fought alongside British pilots against the Germans in the 1940's. When the Polish pilots first joined the British RAF pilots in the fight for freedom against the Germans, the English had little respect for their skills. It soon became apparent to the British that the Poles were extremely skilled pilots and their assistance during the numerous air battles with the enemy helped considerably in Great Britain winning the war. I am surprised that this movie was rated low by numerous review sites. I guess it relates to it's basic, dare I say "unpolished" honest approach with no "bells and whistles" format. Although this movie may not be a highly rated by most, it does make the inquiring mind want to "hit the history books" to read more about these brave, accomplished pilots. It is satisfying getting away from phony & polished action- packed American style cinema. I like to go back to quality, unpretentious viewing with factual subject matter that makes you think

I'm very interested in seeing this. Britain had an agreement to defend Poland in the event of invasion, but instead Churchill and Roosevelt handed Poland over to Stalin and the Soviets, along with much of Eastern Europe, as a way of negotiating the Soviets coming in with the Allies to fight the war. Germany invaded the historically German parts of Poland on Sept. 3, 1939, then Stalin invaded Poland from the east 2 weeks later, basically crushing Poland out of existence for the next 4 decades. The Poles payed a very high price as a result of the Churchill's and Roosevelt's betrayal. It will be interesting to see how this is handled in this story.

Many people tend to think of the RAF, Royal Air Force, as comprised of pilots from the United Kingdom. Actually he RAF Roll of Honour recognises 574 pilots, from countries other than the U. K. participated in the Battle of Britain. Although the RAF only recognises 83 Canadian pilots as flying on fighter operations during the Battle of Britain, the RCAF claims the actual figure was over 100, and that of those 23 died and 30 more were killed later in the war. More than 30 Australians served in RAF Fighter Command during the Battle. The RAF officially recognizes 30 Belgians as having participated in the Battle of Britain (of whom 18 did not survive the war).
Nearly 90 Czechoslovak pilots would fly in the Battle of Britain, with No. 310 and No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadrons, RAF, formed in the summer 1940 and operational during the battle.
**********Now Concerning the Polish pilots who were the heroes of this film: By June 1940, the Poles had over 85,000 men in France, including pilots and ground troops. Many of these personnel escaped to the UK around the time of the fall of France. By mid-1940 some 35,000 Polish airmen, soldiers and sailors had made their way to Britain, making up the largest foreign military force in the country after the French, as well as making it the largest Polish army ever formed abroad . Many were members of the Polish Air Force which had fought the Luftwaffe. However, the Air Ministry and the RAF underestimated their potential value in fighting against the Luftwaffe, as they felt that the Polish defeat on home soil was due to incompetence and lack of training. Then, of course, there was the issue of language. Finally, in July 1940 the RAF announced that it would form two Polish fighter squadrons: 302 "Poznański" Squadron and 303 "Kościuszko" Squadron were composed of Polish pilots anThe two fighter squadrons went into action in August, with 89 Polish pilots. Another 50 Poles took part in the Battle, in RAF squadrons.d ground crews, although their flight.commanders and commanding officers were British. 303 Squadron claimed the highest number of kills (126) of all Allied squadrons engaged in the Battle of Britain = the highest-scoring Allied squadron during the Battle. An excellent WWII film that highlights the bravery of allies who were driven from Poland and had no country to return to as Poland was absorbed into the Soviet Union. Kristi & Abby Tabby

The story of the RAF squadron 303. The 303 was Polish with a Canadian in charge. They shot down 20% of the Germans in the Second World War but were told to repatriate as soon as the war was over. They didn't even want them to march in the victory parade. A story that should be told and a well done movie made on the cheap. Recommended.

Yes this is not D Day, but it's the battles that don't make the front page that help complete the whole picture. cheers Bob

I liked it. Finally a movie where they got the planes right. As an airplane geek I appreciate that.

Reminded me of the other movie flyboys. Not much of a story and not much entertainment either. It is just one of those movies you watch and then you try to think if you wasted your time watching it or not.

Nostalgic look back at the "good old days" when men were men, women were whores, racism was a basic right, and God was an Englishman.
