This entrancing and deeply searching novel will touch a nerve in every reader. Celia Grinstead, 40-year-old mother of three almost-grown children, on a sudden impulse, walks away from her marriage, hitches a ride into the unknown, and settles in a strange new town. But soon after she begins her impersonal, unencumbered new life, fresh responsibilities inevitably accumulate.

Delia walks out on her old life without looking back. She feels undervalued and taken advantage of by her family, and wants a new start with no responsibilities. But, somehow, responsibilities have followed her to her new life.

Definitely not my favorite Tyler. I liked Delia, a lot. It was never clear, to her or me, why she walked away from her family. Her new life clearly suited her, one she built from scratch. She became beloved to many for who she was, not what she could do for people who didn't know the color of her eyes. Some of the reviews on the paperback version I read called the book a fantasy. But which version of Delia's life was the fantasy? The one she began with, or the one she built on her own? The ending disappointed me.

A 40 year old wife and mother on a beach holiday literally walks away from the only life she has ever known and is spellbound by the simple sense of freedom she finds - a plain cheap room, one dress and a minimum wage job. Beautifully written, engagingly unique and utterly convincing.

A 40 year old woman walks away from her family, feeling unvalued and expendable. She rewinds her life, restarting in a new town, only to recreate her old life. Although told with humour, the story is not very believable and is left somewhat unresolved.

I'm sorry , but I don't agree with the critics on this one . It's good - just not a masterpiece . Other works of hers have far more interesting characters .

Depressing and hard to relate to the main character. It was good, not one I would add to my shelves, though.
