One Day in December
A Novel
Book - 2018
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story. Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic ... and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It's Jack, the man from the bus. It would be. What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

Laurie finally met the one, except he was a guy she saw outside the bus she was riding. When their paths cross again, he turns out to be her friend's boyfriend. Romcom things ensue in this Love Actually-esque novel.

Add a CommentWhat an absolutely and utterly delightful novel. So few writers truly pull off a well written first person narrative, much less one with two first person narrators. I adored this novel. I rooted for these characters and though I had to wait a long time, the journey was enjoyable and lovely to the end. She has a lifelong reader.
The audio book was exceptional. It was unhurried and personable and all of the lines were delivered as if they were the very thoughts of the speakers. Highly, highly recommend experiencing the novel through their voices. It was superb. Plus, for an American, hearing their accents is the only way to experience an English novel, properly.
Perfection.

Stunning story. Such an interesting take on something that's potentially morally grey but you root for it all the same.
I could not wait to finish this book. I literally had to slog through the mess. Folks, there is nothing wholesome about the relationships these people have - plain and simple!! Why do people think it’s okay to divorce your spouse because you don’t want to move for him but are willing to do it for someone else with a weaker ties? What is wrong with society who thinks this is “sweet and cute”? I wouldn’t recommend this book, and it is rudimentary. A kindergartener could have written this as well.
This was a cute romance that was fun to read during the winter months. You could enjoy it at any time of year, but the fact that it started during December was quaint. It has a little feel of Bridget Jones Diary, which was clever and relatable. The f-word was a common one, but I suppose it added to the unrefined nature of the characters. An unexpected theme in the story was that of selfless friendship and denying self for the sake of another. I loved the deep rooted friendship between Laurie and Sarah, and the author did a great job of developing their relationship. I thought the story was a tad drawn out towards the end, but that only made it even more believable in real life. I recommend this story to those that enjoy clever romance novels.
This book, which reads in no time, is in the really good chick book category. Although the ending of love stories is often predictable, the how is not. Parallel to the love story (or stories) is a wonderful story of friendship between Laurie and Sarah, although this relationship is greatly tested. Good book to read this Christmas.
This was a wonderfully written book and couldn’t wait to pick up again.
This was my first book by this author but will definitely look for more of her books
This one is a good story. Heartbreaking and humorous.
I went back and read this book again because there were so many small moments that had an impact on how the story plays out. All three characters h as value and valid viewpoints that came into play.
I was pleasantly surprised at how charming I found this love story! Not only a love story but a story of true friendships and the trials and struggles of both love and friendships and loyalties. A great summer read in my opinion.
