Who says an American from Texas can't play a Brit? Renee proves that they can!

Bridget Jones's Diary is a light and fun romantic comedy. The cast is very good. This first movie is better than its sequels, but those are okay, too. Bridget Jones's Diary is rated R for language and some strong sexuality.

Fun, romantic comedy. As always, the book has more depth, but a nice adaptation. Lead actors all turn in excellent performances.

One of my favorite movies to watch around the holidays. Hilarious, romantic, and just plain lovely.

Great movie, loved it.

It has Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, so it's difficult to outright dislike. Not the best romantic comedy I've ever seen, but certainly not the worst.

I love the book, but only liked the movie, primarily because of the greater emphasis put of her romantic relationships instead of her friendships. Jude, Shazz, and Tom are fantastic, hilarious characters in the books, and are sadly more background in the film. Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver totally steals the show; this role is a nice departure from his usual lovable, slightly neurotic, leading man.

Quirky, fun movie. Hadn't seen this in several years but after seeing it again, I decided to buy the DVD. It's a movie that can always bring a smile to your face. Renée Zellweger is adorable in this role as the hapless but always optimistic Bridget. The film captures handsome and talented Colin Firth with some particularly sexy, penetrating gazes. Hugh Grant shows that he can be a humorous cad. Under Special Features, Renée discusses how she prepared for the movie - she moved to the UK several months before the shoot started and took a job in a publishing firm (incognito, of course). She also kept her British accent both on and off-screen such that Hugh Grant didn't realize she was Texan until the "wrap-up party". Pretty impressive dedication to the craft and it pays off.

Mark Darcy: Mother, I do not need a blind date. Particularly not with some verbally incontinent spinster who drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney, and dresses like her mother.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going okay, another falls spectacularly to pieces.

I've been going crazy. I can't stop thinking about you, and thinking about what an idiot I've been. Christ, is that blue soup?

Bridget: Wait a minute; nice boys don't kiss like that.
Mark Darcy: Oh, yes, they f*ing do.

Mark Darcy: I don't think you're an idiot at all. I mean, there are elements of the ridiculous about you. Your mother's pretty interesting. And you really are an appallingly bad public speaker. And, um, you tend to let whatever's in your head come out of your mouth without much consideration of the consequences... But the thing is, um, what I'm trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much. Just as you are.
