Working as a fact-checker for an insurance company while he awaits an appeal, Frank Cole is asked to look into the case of Eddie Gonzalez, a young man killed in a hit-and-run accident, who only recently bought life insurance. As Frank looks further into the case, it becomes clear that Eddie's death was not an accident and that the killers actually had another target in mind.

This is not the type of case you file away and forget. Well-intending fact-checker Frank Cole is ordered to close a death insurance benefit case of a young man killed during a biking mishap. Frank differs and contends the insurance company should pay. Further inquiries begin to turn up surprises--for instance, the victim may have been a mistaken target—and Frank receives a not-so-subtle death threat. The newly-transplanted northerner finds Florida less inviting than ever imagined as he enlists the help of a wily private investigator to help him stay alive. The first of a new series, the amiable Frank’s exploits make for a likable read.
