From the author of the Ship Breaker Series comes a collection of eleven short science fiction stories. Social criticism, environmental advocacy, and political parable are at the core of Paolo's work. Each tale is simultaneously a warning and a celebration of the tragic comedy that is the human experience. These eleven stories represent the best of Bacigalupi's work. They include the Hugo nominee "Yellow Card Man," the Sturgeon Award-winning story "The Calorie Man," and the Nebula- and Hugo-nominated story "The People of Sand and slag." Readers of Ted Chiang and Kelly Link will enjoy this collection.

Found this to be some of the best short fiction of the year. It has a few harsh hard to read stories like the Flute Girl, but other than that it matches up nicely with The windup girl (read) and water knife (haven't yet).

Short stories of a dystopian earth taking place at various points into the future. If you've read The Water Knife and Windup Girl, you'll recognize several of the settings, era's and references. In an earlier review, I assumed that each of Bacugalupi's stories take place in the same world but at different points. While there are definitely stories that take place in the same setting as Windup Girl and Water Knife, a few stories seemingly take place in their own narrative universes. I can't wait to read more material from the author.

I clean toilets at my yoga studio in exchange for unlimited power, sculpt, cardio, core yoga or power pumper yoga as my ex wife/girlfriend likes to call it. Pump Six offers the most realistic near future dystopian scenario I have ever read thanks to corporations like Monsanto and ADM causing global plagues, blight and other food crises wth GMO's and planned obsolescence. And this is exactly what motivates me to train daily either for just such an apocalyptic event or three night run of Phish concerts whichever comes first.

Dystopian science fiction at its best. Great concepts! Poor BioDog!
