"Everything comes from the great book of Nature; human attainments are an already printed book."--Gaudi, end title screen. The Catalan architect, ceramist, and sculptor united Neo-Gothic mysticism and grandeur with Art Nouveau lines, combined with a surreal apprehension of the power of nature. Less of a documentary than a tribute, Teshigahara's film becomes a place to get lost, a radically hypnotic travelogue that's completely symbiotic with its subject. Almost wordless, this visual rhapsody is accompanied by music from composer Toru Takemitsu, whose free-floating East-meets-West impressionism and organic flow mimics the sprouting curvilinear shapes of Gaudi's buildings.

A good film - watch it without the sound is better. A brief foray
into blood and guts of animals I have no idea why- but other than that brief moment very visually interesting.
Sometimes lingers a bit long on one work, but not unbearable.

This is a great film. I really enjoyed it. I was surprised to find it at the library.

If you haven't been to Barcelona yet, start with the material on DVD2 to get an overview. The feature film has hardly any spoken words and no background on Gaudi's work.

This video homage to one of the early 20th century's greatest architects is told virtually without commentary. It relies entirely on graciously choreographed images and camera movement. A contemporary and unobtrusive music complements the visual images.
