The reader is introduced to Soren, a barn owl and the centerpiece of the series. When Soren is pushed from his family's nest by his older brother, he is rescued from certain death on the forest floor by agents from a mysterious school for orphaned owls, St. Aggie's. When Soren arrives at St. Aggie's, he suspects there is more to the school than meets the eye. He and his new friend, the clever and scrappy Gylfie, find out that St. Aggie's is actually a training camp where the school's leader can groom young owls to help achieve her goal.

This series is among the best modern writings in the world. You won't be able to put the book down! I finished this book the day after a started it, and proceeded to burn up the pages on the next. I barely took a break while reading any of these books, and I bet YOU won't either!

When I was young (10 maybe?) and I first read this book, I couldn't put it down. This book sparked my love for owls.

Short Summary *SPOILERS MAYBE?*

They both discover a different world beyond their nesting tree and the stories of the Guardians their father told them. Soren soon discovers there is more to thus place; an evil power. It is a wonderful book. Although some parts of the book is sad, it is the BEST BOOK EVER!!!!
I can't wait till my next book on hold comes out! I promise you that all the Gardiens of Ga'Hoole books are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

This is a fantastic book! ο˜ƒο˜ƒ I cannot wait to receive my hold for the next book in this series, it is taking forever. The sad events in this story broke my heart, but that's what makes it interesting. Anyway, I love the series so far! It's a great start to a series because the first book is so engaging.
My favorite character is Gylfie, very cute, tiny, but smart. Just the perfect combination!

I love this series so much, I was so sad when I finished it because I couldn't read more about Soren and his adventures. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Erin Hunter, Lisa Fiedler, or any of Kathryn Lasky's other books. Once again, I love this series!

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Although this book doesn't have much that would be unsuitable for a younger audience, (other than the ending section) later books feature some blood and death scenes. Seems a little bit heavy for this light beginning. Most of the books are fine however, and if you can live through one or two violent scenes then this book/series is for you.
