I loved all three "How to Train Your Dragon" movies and wanted to read the books on which they were based, but Cressida Cowell's books follow a completely different story line. Hollywood paid the author for the idea -- a Viking village whose citizens learn to ride dragons --- and used some of her characters, but that is where the similarity ends. If you want to read this series because you want to be reminded of the movie, you will be disappointed. But once you push that aside and read the tale as she envisioned it, you will come to enjoy the story. Even though it says you don't have to read the books in order, I recommend you do. But editor, you went cheap on the illustrations. Please hire someone with talent. The artwork is terrible.

I love the books! I enjoyed reading through the small Dragonese dictionary in the back of the book.

Includes an entire section at the end entitled "Conversations with Toothless". Loved it!
