If you like the whining of a self-obsessed character, you will get your fill of this in Joseph Geist.

This failing graduate student pretends to be the rationally solid disciple of Nietzsche and the concept of free will. But his ruminating over where life has cast him overlooks the responsibility for what Joseph has brought upon himself.

Mr. Geist takes advantage of others and benefits without contributing. He appears emotionally inept and rationalizes selfish whims. A dedicated and good-hearted priest, the older woman who gave him a job and a roof, his compassionate girlfriend all get tossed to the side.

At first I found an interest in his dipping into the well of philosophical concepts. But the vessel leaked and the story drifted. I followed the story to the end and wonder now if it was worth it.

This is one of the most tedious, least entertaining audiobooks of all times! The constant ruminations of a mediocre philosophy student vacillate from puerile to inane and back again. The story takes so long to build up to any sort of real intrigue that the listener is driven from boredom to near complete stupor. Listen at your own risk!
