"Here's the real story...In 1969, television history changed forever with the debut of The Brady Bunch. Popular but never #1 in its time, the original series ran for five years before being canceled. But soon after the series ended, the legend began. After decades of continuous syndication, spin-off series, fan clubs, unofficial books and novelties, TV documentaries, feature films, and a stage musical, The Brady Bunch is recognized as one of the most beloved television series of all-time. And now, for the first time ever, Sherwood Schwartz (series creator) and his partner and son Lloyd (series producer) tell the whole, true story of how The Brady Bunch came to be, what happened behind the scenes, and all the things that have gone into making the show a legend."--Dust jacket.

A good beach read.

While reading this, I felt that I was sitting in a room with an elderly man and his aging son, listening to them reminisce about the greatest achievement of their lives. Though it may seem strange to attach that tag to the feel-good 70's sitcom The Brady Bunch, the more of this book you read, the more you understand the show and the undeniable impact it has had on lives. Was the show corny and saccharine-sweet? Yes, of course. Was a good deal of that corny-ness purposeful, and did that sweetness touch the collective hearts of generations of kids yearning for a little of the Brady ideal in their own lives? I am living proof of that. The Schwartzes have every right to feel proud of their achievement, even if at times their pride distorts their reminisces about the show.
