Loved the first three books. Downhill since then but this was a pleasant surprise, the growth of Rudi and his relationship with Matti culminating in the marriage. But glanced at the next and back to a glorified travelogue. Too bad. I will not waste the time and the books are now serving as revenue producers, not to tell a story. Tolkien would spin in his grave.
One of the weakest books in the Emberverse series. Technically, this is 4th book in a 2nd series of books about "the change" where all electrical and gunpowder fails on earth which causes basically an apocalyptic event killing billions (the book series is less depressing then that!). But really it is the 7th book in basically a long series about the same characters and same main plot. I found the pace of this book much slower and maybe that's because this book more takes place after the main adventure/travel from the last few books but before the mass war betweeen Montival and CUT. Still, overall I love the series of books. It is a fun alternative-history type of series and if you like medieval fiction or like Harry Turtledove, you'll like this series. But start at the real first book called "Dies the Fire".
