"I am the child of two parents, and two countries. My mother put the blue in my eyes and my father gave me grit. Scotland made me what I am, and America let me be it."

“On that same tour we ran into a band at Aylesbury Friars, a biggish venue in Oxfordshire, England. They were a four-piece from Ireland called U2. They seemed like nice fellows and they sounded pretty good, but we didn’t keep in touch. They’re probably taxi drivers and accountants by now.”

“America truly is the best idea for a country that anyone has ever come up with so far. Not only because we value democracy and the rights of the individual, but because we are always our own most effective voice of descent....We must never mistake disagreement between Americans on political or moral issues to be an indication of their level of patriotism. If you don't like what I say or don't agree with where I stand on certain issues, then good. I'm glad we're in America, and don't have to oppress each other over it. We're not just a nation, we're not an ethnicity. We are a dream of justice that people have had for a thousand years.”

Add a CommentWhile it is an enjoyable book, I didn't find it nearly as funny as other commentors seem to say. Still, it was a good read and semi-good support for recovering alcoholics. While the title implies a heavy emphasis on America, this is a biography and as such deals a lot with Ferguson's time in Scotland. The other thing that brought it down a bit was the language, there's rather a lot of it. And while some is in dialogue, I didn't think that all of it was totally necessary.
I love this guy! That is all I have to say!
As others have already noted, this is a truly hilarious book. The audio version is read by Ferguson himself—perfect! I also found his comments on the concept of “America” pretty darn inspiring. He’s a very sincere, genuine, patriot.
A fun and entertaining look at the life and times of Craig Ferguson!
A dangerous book to listen to while commuting because you will be laughing so hard you might end up in an Accident!
I love English Humor, and Scottish Humor is even better.
