Fife makes a case for the low carb diet with lots of coconut oil (saturated fat) to alleviate or slow down Alzheimers. Of course, this goes completely against the commonly-accepted notion that fats are bad and particularly saturated fat is bad. He has also written books that coconut oil helps fight arthritis, eye cataracts, and gum disease. He claims science is on his side and he may be right. But of course science conclusions change as time goes by and more experiments are done.

I didn't like Fife's general attitude that he was right and everybody who disagreed was a quack using false science. Good science should involve respect for other opinions. In particular, his diatribe against Nathan Pritikin and his low fat diet regimen was over the top. Pritikin did a lot of good things for people 20 years ago to prevent and recover from heart attacks. He was a genuine good guy, and OK maybe a bit of a low fat zealot. Given all the books Fife has written on coconut oil, I think we can conclude that HE is a coconut zealot.
