"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' ... If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom...crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" Samuel Adams distinguishing between pro- and anti-Americans.
Jake Sully: [Narrating] There's no such thing as an ex-marine. You may be out, but you never lose the attitude.
Jake Sully: [Narrating] Up ahead was Pandora. You grew up hearing about it, but I never figured I'd be goin' there.
Jake Sully: Yeah, Doc, it's safe, and you are not gonna believe where I am!

By 2148, humans have severely depleted Earth's natural resources. In 2154, the RDA Corporation mines for a valuable mineral—unobtanium—on Pandora, a densely forested habitable moon of the gas giant Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri star system.[10] Pandora, whose atmosphere is poisonous to humans, is inhabited by the Na'vi, 10-foot (3.0 m)-tall, blue-skinned, sapient humanoids[33] who live in harmony with nature and worship a mother goddess called Eywa.

Comment
Add a CommentThe movie “Avatar” is about sci-fi/ action movie that takes place in a distant world from earth called Pandora in the year 2154. The American government has discovered this world and wants to extract its rich resources from it. However, there is a native pieces their called the Na’vi who are deep spirituality with their world and nature and do not want their world to be destroyed. The American government develops an an avatar of that is identical to the Na’vi so humans can connect to them better so they give up their land. Paraplegic Jack Sully is chosen to be an avatar and he an his team try to connect with the Na’vi. After spending some Tim with them, will he be willing to still follow through on the U.S plan to mine and deplete Pandora’s resources or does he develop a deep enough connection with the Na’vi and side with them to defend their world from the U.S government. The CGI and technology used to create this movie was groundbreaking. It created a futuristic planet that seemed realistic in the film. The storyline is very important and like Indigenous people today, feel a great connection with nature. Overall, this movie is a 10/10 for me and the world had never seen such an advanced technological and visually mesmerizing film that a director created before. @Sportsreader03 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
Full of cliches and cultural appropriation. Visually interesting and well acted by at least some, but trust me...You already know this way-too-overdone story.
This movie broke records in its time and I am still entertained by it; although, I admittedly have to say that some of the graphics did not stand up to the test of time. If only because it laid the foundation work for many other great CGI/motion-capture movies to come. The plot is one that we have seen before, no doubt, and the character depth is 1/2 there. But this movie is electrifying and fun to watch. The score is beautiful and it sweeps your emotions along with it on the journey. Overall definitely one to watch.
I didn't mind that the plot was a rip-off of Dances with Wolves meets Fern Gully. I didn't mind that the, at first gorgeous, CGI aesthetic looses it's luster after thirty minutes into the movie. I didn't even mind that the actors, some great others mediocre, ALL seemed to ham it up under James Cameron's direction (was this intentional, does Cameron think these are good performances??) What killed me was the atrociously, laughably bad dialogue. As if written by an eleven-year-old boy, every line out of the actors' mouths was either a cliche on steroids or just so random and ridiculous I thought I was being punk'd. Why was everyone obsessed with this movie when it came out? How did Cameron convince us all to drink the blue kool-aid? Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana deserved better.
Spectacular, intense action flick with a solid plot and amazing SFX. 'Avatar' is truly something special.
The science was very weak; more of a fantasy than Science Fiction; overhyped.
I was skeptical when I first heard about this one. But it really is good and epic!
I'm very obsessed with this movie since the first time I ever saw it and I can't wait for the second one to come out
This movie was creative and beautiful and I was actually obsessed with it at one point in my life. Still kinda am.
I had not seen this movie since it first came out (8 years ago). It holds up well. Great story, acting, action, and special effects. A truly remarkable film not to be missed. Might be a bit too intense for kids under 10.
