Add a CommentFans of Little House on the Prairie will love this novel in verse. The length and format are great for reluctant readers, which seems appropriate considering the theme of dyslexia that runs through this book. Though the protagonist is a female, boys who like survival stories like Gary Paulsen's might enjoy this book too.
A beautiful novel in verse about a girl who finds herself abandoned on the prairie with winter on the way. Great for fans of the Little House on the Prairie series and Karen Hesse's "Out of the Dust," this story has few words, but a lot of heart, and explores themes of survival, dyslexia, and finding the courage to take hold of one's own destiny.
Pleasantly surprised, enough so that I read this in a day. I don't typically go for novels in verse but this one read like a novel. Perfect for fans of the "Little House" books.
This was a great book it was short but very descriptive it was one of my favorites
So much expression in so few words. A good choice for reluctant readers and fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Ages 10-14.
A quick and insightful read in the life of a dyslexic child on the prairie and how girls were treated and valued during that time period.
This middle-grade historical novel-in-verse is fast-paced and fluid; with an in-depth look at prairie life and an elegant writing style, the author brings a harsh winter and a courageous protagonist to life.
Really great YA poetic novel...facscinating looks at prairie life (ala Laura Ingalls Wilder) and a great resilient main character.
